THE PROJECT
The focus area in this project are young people, in their twenties, who has a lack of interest in culture. This projects is about how technology can create better conditions and increase future interest in cultural heritage. To create more interest in cultural heritage and historical sites in Sweden also requires more understanding of why there is a lack of interest, and what shortcomings and difficulties there are in visiting these sites. Our vision is to use technology to increase the interest in culture among young people.
We believe that cultural heritage has an important place in our society. Why we are where we are and things work as they do as a result of our history, therefore, it needs to live on even in younger generations. The further away you get, with generational change foe example, the less the affiliation and connection is to the cultural heritage. To foster an understanding of today's society, we also need to foster an understanding of society's history. History and how we usually affect it and the future. A greater interest in culture or cultural sites is not positive for the object or place in question, without affecting the whole society. Greater tourism leads to the local businesses benefiting, which means that the community's or local economy increases, it can create more job opportunities and perhaps give life to an forgotten society.
ABOUT SANDBY CASTLE
In this work, we have chosen the ancient Sandby castle as focus area. Sandby castle is an ancient castle on Öland that was in use during the Middle Iron Age. What separates the cultural heritage from various similar historical sites is an event that took place in the late 400s, studies show a violent massacre inside the castle. The deceased people have since been left at the place where they died, so the castle has not been reused, which gives a unique and clear snapshot of the event. Today, large-scale archaeological excavations and research are being conducted to try to find out more about the macabre event and about the inhabitants of the castle. There are exhibitions at the Kalmar Museum as well as guided tours of the actual castle held by archaeologists and experts in the field. Sandby castle's  history and its macabre finds have made the castle a world first, where people from many parts of the world follow the work on the mystery.
